In this entry I want to get straight to the point, and I hope to ultimately help you prepare for your very own love story. It seems the biblical relationship of Ruth and Boaz has become extremely popular amongst singles and lovers. Don’t get me wrong it makes complete and total sense! This is one of the most romantic, deep, and even hopeful love stories we find in the Bible. Two good individuals that seemingly deserve each other and actually end up happily ever after; despite the individual perils they had to previously face. Who doesn’t want that?
Lets take a trip down memory lane for a second. Ruth lost her husband, brother in law, and father in law and then chose to stay by her mother in laws side. Ruth continued to respect and honor her mother in law, and in doing so traveled to unfamiliar territory with her. Ruth ultimately meets Boaz while working hard to find leftovers in an already picked over field. Here is where it gets GOOD! Ruth 2: 5- 9 reads: “Boaz asked his young servant who was foreman over the farm hands, “Who is this young woman? Where did she come from?” The foreman said, “Why, that’s the Moabite girl, the one who came with Naomi from the country of Moab. She asked permission. ‘Let me glean,’ she said, ‘and gather among the sheaves following after your harvesters.’ She’s been at it steady ever since, from early morning until now, without so much as a break. Then Boaz spoke to Ruth: “Listen, my daughter. From now on don’t go to any other field to glean—stay right here in this one. And stay close to my young women. Watch where they are harvesting and follow them. And don’t worry about a thing; I’ve given orders to my servants not to harass you. When you get thirsty, feel free to go and drink from the water buckets that the servants have filled.”
First ladies lets remember one important point- Ruth was about her business!! Ruth worked hard for what she needed, and without complaint. Secondly, Ruth did not go searching for her man, instead, her man found her. Boaz SAW Ruth, now just marinate on that. When I say that Boaz saw Ruth I do not merely mean in the physical, we of course know he saw her with his eyes. I mean he recognized all of her and appreciated who she was and what she stood for! He put in a little due diligence by asking his servants about her and proceeded to ensure she was respected, protected, and even provided for before anything else. That is a “Boaz.”
Lets be clear. I by no means believe that a man should come to the table and sponsor your entire life as soon as he says hello. However, I do believe that a good man will see you. And I know that a good man will not only respect you, but he will ensure those around him do also. He will protect you from anyone that could harm you. He will show you that what he has can be shared with you. He will honor not just who you are, but where you came from!
One of the biggest issues we have in the dating world is that when someone gives us that first glimpse of who they are we either hope for better and stick around, or we choose to ignore it altogether. This is the no judgement zone, trust me, I have done all of the above and then some!! How many times have you made a conscious decision to ignore those red flags? Ladies, If Boaz is who you really want, then you have to be willing to say goodbye to the man you know in your gut is not him! Put in your individual work now so that when he finds YOU, he finds a woman worth honoring. Fellas, If Ruth is who you desire, you have to be willing to not only accept all of her when she comes but, you have to be ready to give her what she deserves from the beginning too. How a relationship starts is extremely important! The effort put in should be reciprocal, the respect should be automatic, and the partner recognition should be beyond physical.
