“Don’t allow people to hold your past against you . Be happy, enjoy your life. People assaulting you and your character are probably bitter and living unfulfilled lives. Remember, when you feel good about life it radiates! Happiness is contagious and exiting; For now let them be bitter, you just be better.”
– Her Husband
I am sure you have heard the popular saying “what someone else thinks of me is none of my business.” Take the time to marinate on that concept, accept and believe it because it is so very relevant and true. We spend most of our lives seeking validation from those around us and lose sight of the only opinion that truly matters- the Creator’s. Being a prisoner of the past is something we all easily do, what is even more troubling is the fact that we give those around us the right to the prison key. Almost as if we say ” I will walk myself into this cell and hide behind these bars because of the things I know I have done, here take this key and lock me in and you can decide when that door is opened again.” When we look at it this way it doesn’t seem so right, does it?
The pain of our past is real, and trust me I know that it is not easily forgotten. We have to get ourselves to a point where we acknowledge, repent, and forgive ourselves. In the process it is vital that we deny anyone else the right to keep us in the place of pity and shame. The moment I chose to be happy, truly happy I attracted more people than I ever have. I noticed more friendly faces and found myself in more positive environments. I felt as if I had some sort of secret and everyone around me wanted the answer to it! The beauty of this is the only “secret” I hold is Jesus and I was able to lead more people in His direction because of the joy that seemingly bounced from my direction. Like my husband said, let them be bitter- you just be better!! A better you will set the tone for a better them.
Psalm 37: 4-6
“Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.”
